  PROGRAM OFFICER
The Canadian High Commission requires the services of a consultant for a short term assignment (Dec 07 Aug 08). Strong likelihood of extension.

PROGRAM OFFICER
The Program Officer will be responsible for working on border management projects, in collaboration with the Canadian High Commission and the relevant government (GOP) authorities. He/she will assist with, facilitate and provide: program, administrative, logistics, communications, report writing and miscellaneous support that will inform and feed into the pertinent projects. This is an Islamabad based post.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
The Program Officer should ideally have/be:
* A relevant postgraduate degree in any of the following disciplines Political Science/International Relations / Economics / Sociology / Development Studies

* Preferably, 5 to 10 years experience with development projects (especially in Monitoring & Evaluation)

* At least 3-5 years of field experience in the Pak-Afghan border areas

* Excellent command of written and spoken English

* Strong interpersonal & communication skills

* A working knowledge of Pushto, Balochi and/or Dari (at least two out of these three local languages)

* A solid understanding of local customs and traditions in the Pak- Afghan border areas, as well as the power dynamics of the border areas

* A solid understanding and knowledge of the ground realities of security-related issues in Pakistan's border areas

* Experience of projects' financial management/monitoring

* Willing to travel to remote border areas in Pakistan

* An alert, proactive problem-solving approach

* The ability to meet tight deadlines, under pressure
