The Ali Institute of Education (AIE) was established in 1992 by a distinguished family trust, with the primary objective of providing effective teachers to the schools of Pakistan. The UNDP and SIDA (Sweden) also supported this endeavour initially, to improve the quality of education in our country. At the Ali Institute of Education we believe that teachers are agents of change and they can bring about a meaningful transformation to the education scenario of Pakistan. To develop teachers into their purported role, the AIE offers pre-service and in-service programmes.
Chairman's Message
The daughters of Syed Ahsan Ali (1880 – 1942), and the sons and daughters of Syed Maratib Ali (1883 – 1961), donated nine acres of land situated on Ferozepur Road, Lahore to the Industrial, Technical and Educational Institute (ITEI), a non-profit society registered under the Societies Registration Act of 1860, to establish a vocational training school, which started working in 1972 under the name of Ali Industrial Technical Institute (AITI).
In 1992 the trustees of the ITEI decided to phase-out the technical school and replace it with a teacher training institution under the name of Ali Institute of Education (AIE).
I am privileged to have been associated with the setting up of the original school, the AITI and its successor, the AIE.
The primary objective of both these institutes has been the dissemination of knowledge at a level where it matters the most for the uplift of our country. While setting up the AIE, I was informed by many of the educationists that the maximum damage to the learning process of our students takes place in the primary education. It was, therefore, decided that we must address ourselves to the primary education of our country if we really want to bring about any positive changes in the current educational impasse. Hence, the declared mission of the Ali Institute of Education that specifies “a commitment to improving the quality of primary-school level education in Pakistan through raising the status of teaching to a profession.”
As Chairman of its Management Committee, I pledge my continuing support to the educational programme of the AIE and wish its organisation the best of luck in its endeavours to perpetually improve the standard of education being imparted.
Director's Message
The Ali Institute has seen a number of changes over the years, especially in the most recent years. This website is the latest development being brought to the campus.
If you look around our site you’ll see that we have a lot to offer teachers and trainee teachers alike. We have enviable facilities including a Females’ Hostel and the Ali Auditorium, the extensive library holding up to 22,000 books, staff with international experience and beautiful grounds.
At the Ali Institute, education is our mission and excellence is our goal. In this regard, we attempt to uphold the highest standards of training and support for learning, a wide spectrum of course diversity to meet ever-changing interests and needs, and the courage to expect the highest standards from our students. If you join us as a student here, you will have opted to join one of the most stringent and effective teacher training programmes in the country. You will find your period of training very hard work in many ways but, if our past experience is anything to go by, you will also find your time studying here immensely satisfying and very rewarding.
Joining a course with us will be a period of personal growth for you which will be both challenging and fascinating.
I came to the Ali Institute three years ago from the UK because I thought the Ali Institute was engaged in something meaningful. I was right. There is nothing more valuable to us than helping someone achieve high standards as a teacher, or helping a teacher learn new skills or to develop their strengths. You’ll see that we offer a whole range of courses, training and workshops to meet everyone’s interests – and if you don’t see it here then we have very experienced staff who can make it happen for you.
As a chartered Institute we maintain a clear focus on teachers’ development and teachers’ training. Through our Pre-Service Faculty you’ll see that we offer degree programmes as well as a range of Post Graduate Diploma and Certificate courses. Through the In-Service Faculty you’ll be able to read about our many projects as well as the wealth of Professional Development opportunities we have for existing teachers.
Altogether, the Ali Institute experience is not to be missed. It has certainly changed my life. I’m glad I discovered it and now it’s time that you discover it too!
