BACKGROUND
The Scientific College of Design is established on the belief that the arts are an integral part of our social consciousness, and a powerful catalyst in molding the thoughts and actions of our national and global communities, and that design is both an art and a science. The college founders uphold the philosophy that design is both and art and a science whereby to create art is to engage in design and that meaningful design is based upon a scientific foundation. The Scientific College of Design established its educational philosophy, standards and programs on a liberal arts model of higher education. As such, the college offers a holistic education balancing formal design study with a broad exposure to humanities, literature, and social sciences.
To honor its commitment to excellence in higher education, the college has sought an academic association with the Lebanese American University and the Arab Community College in Jordan.
As the college is about to end its third year of operation, it continues to endeavor to assemble a diverse and rich body of creative students and distinguished faculty, to foster an atmosphere of open and free exchange of ideas, and to encourage innovative and interdisciplinary teaching approaches. Seminal to this learning experience, is a collegial environment that cultivates creativity and facilitates the acquisition of knowledge. Indeed, the Scientific College of Design is in the process of building a new campus in the Airport Hills which will be inaugurated in July, 2007. The new building will feature state of the art facilities such as multi-use studios and audio-visually equipped classrooms.
VISION
The Scientific College of Design believes that creativity is a prerequisite for the enrichment of modern culture, and recognizes design as a profession that shapes society and advances economic growth.
The Scientific College of Design aspires to occupy a preeminent position in the region by cultivating an authentic and contemporary artistic experience that also values traditional and indigenous design paradigms.
The Scientific College of Design envisions itself as a laboratory for experimentation which facilitates the discovery and creation of ideas and designs.
The Scientific College of Design seeks to distinguish itself through its student centered education and cultural diversity, and by providing an open forum for academic discourse. It supplies freedom of artistic expression in order to play a leading role in preparing the next regional generation of academics and professionals in the fields of art and design.
MISSION
The Scientific College of Design is devoted to the education and training of the visual artist and designer in the Gulf region. It is dedicated to chartering new boundaries in design through an engaging student centered curricula, furthered by a highly qualified faculty and dynamic learning environment. The college seeks to cultivate tolerance and respect for cultural pluralism and to shape a generation of leading artists and designers that value personal integrity, moral responsibility, and civic pride.
OBJECTIVE
The Scientific College of Design instigates its mission through the adoption of the following objectives:
